Finished basement with laundry area

The short answer

Our conditional pumped-drainage choice is the Midea Cube 50-Pint Dehumidifier with Pump (MAD50PS1QWT-A) for a basement that needs pumped drainage. Its large bucket gives a backup if you choose to empty it. This is a use-case choice; the conventional Midea pump model has a higher library score.

Why we picked it

A built-in pump and large bucket give two ways to drain a basement. The certified capacity sits in the 50-pint class. This is a use-case pick, not the highest score in the library.

Why you might skip it

The published pump manual covers a related Cube variant. Noise is not documented for this exact model. Confirm the manual and drain configuration before ordering.

Why we picked it

The maker lists a lower operating minimum than the other portable picks. Gravity drainage suits a basement with a floor drain.

Why you might skip it

A minimum operating temperature is not a promise of extraction rate in a cold basement. There is no built-in pump.

Why we picked it

The published pump lift provides more vertical reach than the Cube. Check the full hose route against the manual, not only the height of the window.

Why you might skip it

You pay more for drainage flexibility. A gravity drain may make the pump unnecessary.

Why we picked it

Professional installation and ducting can serve connected spaces that a portable unit cannot reach well. It belongs in a separate whole-home test group.

Why you might skip it

The equipment price excludes installation and ductwork. Its 73°F capacity must not be ranked against portable 65°F capacities.

Before you buy

Pump or gravity drain?

Gravity needs a downhill route all the way to the drain. A built-in pump solves a rise, but its rated lift is a limit, not a target. Check the manual for hose length and installation.

Cold basement?

The LG’s lower stated operating limit makes it an option to investigate. It does not prove greater extraction in cold air. Read the operating conditions alongside the DOE 65°F rating.

When to go whole-home

A closed-off or large connected space can be an air-distribution problem. Ask an installer about ducting and moisture sources before choosing equipment capacity.

Questions people ask

What size should I buy?

For a 2,000 sq ft wet basement our chart convention gives a 50-pint current class, including the one-class basement allowance. Use the calculator for a different space.

Do I need a pump?

A pump is useful if water must rise to a drain. Gravity drainage needs a continuous downward hose route. Compare the stated maximum lift with your actual route.

Will a dehumidifier stop a leak?

No. Fix leaks, seepage and standing water first. A dehumidifier manages moisture in air; it does not replace drainage or waterproofing.

Can I compare a whole-home unit with a portable?

Not directly by pints alone. Whole-home capacity is rated at 73°F, while portable DOE 2019 capacity uses 65°F. Installation and air distribution are also different.

Does a low operating limit prove cold-room performance?

No. It is a maker’s operating boundary, not a removal-rate measurement at that temperature. Certified capacity uses the stated standard condition.

Why are some scores missing?

We show a number only when certified capacity for a dated price, certified IEF and drainage qualify, and at least 90% of weighted evidence is documented. Missing evidence earns zero.
